Glassblowing Experience

How It Works

  • 1

Pick what you'd like to make, such as a rock glass or a bud vase. There are 6 colors to choose from. Add a bubble pattern, a crackle pattern, a handle, or any combination you like, and you're ready to begin. What shape and color will you choose? Let your mood of the day decide.

  • 2

Colored glass is applied to glass melted at 1,300°C. Where should it go? How much? This is the step where vivid colors come in and your piece begins to take on its own character. But there's no time to hesitate. Molten glass waits for no one, and you have only a few moments before it hardens.

  • 3

Blow into the pipe to inflate the glass, little by little. How thick the glass is at this stage has a big effect on the finished piece.
Hurricane-breath types, be careful not to blow too hard. Gentle-breeze types, be brave and give it one more puff. Master your breath, and you master glassblowing.

  • 4

Using special tools, you'll shape the form and the rim. You'll see up close the very moment glass becomes a finished piece. Stop here? Or widen the rim just a little more? But remember: once the glass takes its shape, there's no going back. The biggest decision of the day is waiting for you here.

  • 5

Your one-of-a-kind glass piece is complete. Still at around 500°C, it is cooled slowly. You can pick it up on a later day, or we'll ship it to you. What will you drink from it? What will you put in it? Or will you give it to someone special…? Picture all the moments ahead as you look forward to its arrival. It's not only your breath you blew into the glass. The memories of that day are sealed inside too. The experience doesn't end at the studio; it lasts until the day your piece becomes part of your everyday life.
